Our vision at St Catharine's is to work alongside parents to see children and young people become fully devoted to God and get excited about what God has planned for their lives now and in the future. We hope to engage children in a church they want to be part of. Groups are packed full of worship and story, laughter and learning, games and action, and prayer and fun - all aimed at giving children a tool-kit for life and a confidence in their faith in Jesus. Seeing our children and young people develop and grow up inspired and filled with the Holy Spirit, ready to fulfil their life's potential, is what we are all about.
Our groups are places where children and young people:
There are groups to cater for age 0 - 18, though not all of them take place on a Sunday.
Wrigglers is for 0-5 year olds during the Sunday 9.30am service. This is a supervised créche facility - parents are welcome to stay and play to or go and spend some time in worship. There are plenty of toys and games to keep babies and children happy. You'll find us in the Galilee, which is the room at the back of the church. This is ideal, as children feel they are not too far away from their parents or carers. Everyone is free to come and go!
Junior Church takes place on the second Sunday of each month during the 9.30am service and is for primary school aged children.
Gems (0-2 year olds) and Pebbles (2-5 year olds) meet during the 11.15am service in the Galilee which is the room at the back of the church. Parents are welcome to stay and join in the fun or go and spend some time in worship.
Rock and Roll is our group for primary aged children and they meet in the Parish Room right next door to the church.
Rock Solid caters for young people aged 11-14and they meet in the Office (at the back of church and up the stairs!). Children leave this service with their leaders after a short time of worshipping together as a church family.
For those at 11:15am Morning Worship, the first Sunday of each month is our All Age Worship and no children's work takes place - we meet as a church family and worship, pray and learn together.
Little Fishes meet on Friday mornings for coffee and a chat to cater for 0-5 year olds and their grown ups 10 - 11:30am The group is for babies and pre-school children and their adult carers or child minders. They meet in the Galilee (the room at the back of church) on Friday mornings for Bible stories, songs, prayer, play, craft, chat, tea and coffee. The group is for anyone whether they come to St Catharine's or not. Why not come along and make new friends?
GFS Girls Friendly Society meet in the church hall on Friday evenings 6:30pm - 8pm during term time, welcoming girls aged 6 years+. Evenings are spent trying our hand at just about anything! Things like glass painting, drama, karaoke, sewing, bin bag fashions, treasure hunts - everyone is welcome - why not come along and join in the fun.
Keeping children safe is our highest priority and so all the adults who lead and work with our children and young people are fully CRB checked. We will ask you to complete a registration form when you first take part in any of our groups so that we can be sure we know anything important about your child and so that we can contact you if we need to.
