READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?...
At our meetings we each bring along a book that we have read and enjoyed, and would like to share with the rest of the group. The books don’t have to be overtly ‘religious’ – the last list of six ranged from ‘The Little Flowers of St Francis’ to ‘Restless’ by William Boyd. But we do like books – not necessarily ‘serious’ - that raise important issues and spark lively discussion.
Each person gives a brief introduction of the book they’ve brought along, and after we’ve all had a chance to dip into them, a vote is taken to decide which goes onto the list, although those don’t quite make it are also likely to borrowed and read.
So if you’ve sometimes thought the Book Group sounds a good idea, but haven’t exactly fancied the current choice of reading, now’s your chance to make sure we sample your favourite titles and authors. We meet at Rebecca and Bill Spear’s house in Horton Road at 7.30, talk books and drink coffee! It is all very informal and non-literary!
Dates when Book Group will be meeting and books we will be reading:
6 September - The Shack by Wm Paul Young
6 December - The Wild Places by Robert Macfarlane
7 March 2011 - Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky
6 June 2011 - Dreams from My Father by Barack Obama
